Projectroom.com
was created in 1997 as a shared domain by friends - some who wanted a virtual studio space to test out ideas about online art space, and others who wanted a cool web domain identity so they didn't have to update their email address every time they changed jobs.
Like all collectively created things, some people had some ideas about what it was for, and others had quite different ideas, but as things were fairly amicable it became a shared resource where different sites got made and everyone got along happily.
Over the next decade the domain was hosted on all sorts of boxes from hosts in the US to boxes in warehouses and friends' racks, and provided a virtual space to test ideas, park sites, host community web sites and set up projects. Then for a while it stalled as the original bunch of people were too busy with other projects, and it was idle with real cobwebs starting to show up in the bits and bytes.
In 2007 a new community of friends and artists formed, who are currently in the process of revamping the site, and developing new resources for the domain.
